Our Service

The main purpose of the 2UFoods initiative is to develop a sustainable retail group in South Africa that caters for the low-income market through the development of an integrated food system that covers all business linkages in the food value chain.

Distribution Centre

Daybreak Direct (Pty) Ltd is situated centrally in Gauteng, Centurion to distribute directly to the 2UFoods Retail Stores across the selected trading sites in South Africa. The DC has facilities to receive and store the frozen food items such as poultry, fish, meats, vegetables and dry goods. Apart from supplying the 2UFoods owned or franchised stores, the DC is supplying the Independent Retail Stores across the different provinces. This stores can choose to carry the 2UFoods brands with them or can choose to be supplied from the DC on certain Known Value Items (KVI’s) that forms part of the basket in their product list.

Retail Containers

The retail facilities will be to create retail franchises in low-income areas. Existing stores are refurbished, and local entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to become a 2UFoods-operated store. A service fee is charged by Daybreak Direct (Pty) Ltd to handle the admin and procurement of such a service. The shop owner is trained, and continuous mentorship provided to ensure the brand representation and identity.

Retail Stores

The alternative of using a Container store also exist, in which case 2UFoods will rent the space in the designated trading area for the franchise store. The Retail Containers will function simirlarly to the retail stores in terms of all other aspects.

Logistics

The logistics will be based on the Consologistix Operations Re- port and will be operated by Daybreak Direct. Consologistix estimates that 29 trucks will be needed to ensure eficacies in the logistics . The model is based on an Owner Driver System, where the owner of the truck is also the driver . The system improves entrepreneurial skills, creates job opportunities, and mitigates the risk of deliveries.

“Lots of small, clever money decisions lead to big profits, and without the disciplines of frugality, money gets lost. It’s that simple. Question every single line item on a quote. Do we need it? Can we get it cheaper? This is what it’s about.

Our Corporate Social Investment

At the core of 2U Foods is creating innovative strategies to drive job creation, local economic development and poverty alleviation. The business model aims to have a positive impact in each community it operates within, each branch creates several job opportunities and a total of forty (40) jobs will be created at a Distribution Centre. Further opportunities will then be created through backward linkages from the suppliers of food, beverages and transport, while more jobs created through forward linkages such as Container Stores and Existing refurbished 2UFoods retailer stores and other avenues. The sustainable business model responds directly to the community needs, particularly that of creating opportunities for unemployed individuals, growing thriving businesses in townships and rural areas as well as creating pivotal linkages to retailers, wholesalers, construction companies, and other Small, Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) in surrounding areas. “We want to economically advantage the communities within the selected areas by servicing their basic needs, and saving them money they’d ordinarily spend travelling between towns/cities for daily/weekly and even monthly shopping.” says Kholofelo Maponya, the Chairman of 2UFoods Retail. Furthermore, the business and franchising model is rooted in reducing poverty by establishing programmes aimed at professional development for individuals, businesses and the surrounding community. Rooted in the spirit of Ubuntu, the communities 2UFoods operates within will gain an asset through:

  • Professional Development Programmes
  • Job Readiness Programmes
  • Skills’ Development Initiatives
  • Entrepreneurial Development
  • Job Placements
  • Employee Retention Support

In addition to job creation and business development, 2U Foods will increase income opportunities thus creating purchasing power within the rural and township communities.
